The Kirkwood Ice House

This icehouse was built about 1908 and continued in use until about 1922. Parts of the foundation still remain along the edge of the lake. The dam is just out of the picture to the lower left. Records indicate that the ice reached a thickness of 30 inches some years. The late Burt Peters of Haddonfield, who was raised on a farm at the present location of the Osage School, recalled cutting school as a child and working for the ice company for fifty cents a day.
